every project is unique - lets talk about an approach that suits you

SERVICES

In short, I can provide you with everything you need from first site visit to completing the build. Each new project will be slightly different depending on your specific needs and priorities. However, the following outline is a good indication of typical process.

1 FIRST SITE VISIT
Our first meeting will almost always be at site. This is usually FREE OF CHARGE. Some remote sites (more than 1 hours travel) may require a travel fee to cover basic expenses.

At this meeting, we talk through your requirements in detail and I get more familiar with the nature of your site. After the meeting, a design contract is drawn up outlining a scope of works and a FIXED DESIGN FEE. If you are happy to go ahead, there is a 1/3 deposit to commence with the balance paid on completion of the design phase - and your complete satisfaction of course!

2 SITE SURVEY
Successful landscape design hinges on an accurate and detailed survey. With this, all existing features are mapped out and any important features such as soil type, drainage, desirable views, prevailing winds, levels, existing structures and significant vegetation recorded.

During this 'measure-up' I get a chance to become familiar with the nuances of your property. This step is very important to me as during this time I begin to form a better appreciation for the sites challenges and potential.

3 GENERAL CONCEPT
A concept plan determines the general arrangement for your landscape. All hardscape elements such as paths, walls, decks, patios, driveways and fences are resolved and all planting elements are defined including the location of major trees, shrubbery, ground cover, hedges and lawns. Once this plan is agreed upon, further detail can be added with working drawings.

We usually start with a preliminary plan outlining all my initial ideas. Perspective drawings or elevations may also be used at this stage to help you visualise the proposal. Importantly, this plan tends to generate more in-depth discussion and it is this feedback from you that drives any further modifications or revisions necessary.

4 WORKING DRAWINGS
Working drawings provide the client or contractor with all the specific information required for installation. Working drawings can take many forms but almost always contain a high degree of detail and are very accurate. These plans are the key documents for construction. These plans are also used for preparing quotations. Some examples of working drawings include:

- construction detailing & specification
- planting plans
- consent documentation
- irrigation plans
- lighting plans
- engineering drawings.

5 BUILDING YOUR NEW LANDSCAPE
For some projects, I am engaged to provide CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION. This has two important functions: Firstly, to ensure that the build is true to plan and of an appropriate standard. Secondly, if variations are required, then I am present to provide the necessary design input.

Depending on the complexity of the job, I would typically allow one 2 hr site visit plus 2 hrs of correspondence per week.

I have a long-standing and close relationship with MAYFAIR PARK LANDSCAPES and prefer to work with them in most situations. Nonetheless, if you wish to engage other contracting companies I am quite happy to work with them also.

Many of my past clients (especially for lifestyle blocks) have chosen to build the landscape themselves. In these situations, I am very happy to provide assistance as required. Typical examples include: initial set-out, explaining or teaching different building methodologies, plant sourcing plus recommendations for appropriate staging. This service is usually charged out at an hourly rate.

What Andrew's Clients Are Saying

"Andrew listened carefully to us to work out what we were aiming for. Like a good architect does, he came up with a great design that fits well with our style and bettered our vague ideas by far. It was worth getting him for the unique shape of the deck alone, which is stylish and modern. It complements our house and garden brilliantly, and everyone who comes comments on how good it looks. Not to mention the wonderful planting plan, which is precise, easy to follow and full of beautiful plants. He's been helpful with tips while we've been putting the plan into action too. I'd certainly recommend him and would use him again if I had another garden."
